IRC-Galleria - Active Social Networking

IRC-Galleria is the most active social networking service (SNS) in Finland. It is used by 74% of 15-24 year old Finns on a weekly basis, making it the most active and largest media for teens and young  adults in Finland.

irc-galleria003 Over half a million (500 000) registered members upload 60 000 photos and write 50 000 blog entries daily. On average a registered user spends over 30 minutes daily on IRC-Galleria. The average age of a user is a bit under 21 years. The gender split is roughly equal.

The first version of IRC-Galleria saw daylight in December 2000. It was created by Mr. Tomi Lintelä as a hobby project and consisted of twenty photos of IRC (Internet Relay Chat) users. In a couple of years it was adopted by teens and young adults as a #1 meeting place online.

Sulake acquired Dynamoid, the company behind IRC-Galleria, in 2007.

A localized version of IRC-Galleria currently exists in Germany (IRC-Galerie).
