Want to see a movie? How about 1.5 million movies…

The endless amount of creativity from Habbos keeps us Sulake people amazed all the time. As well as the activity level – it seems that the youth of today are going to be really hard working individuals when they grow up ☺

We saw this again in September with the worldwide movie-making contest Habbowood Digital Movie Awards. Talk about user-generated content! As a result of the global film competition spanning all 30 Habbo countries, we got over 1.5 million entries and those movies were watched over 5 million times in total. Pretty amazing. To me this level of interaction and sheer richness of the playing experience is something that truly sets virtual worlds apart from traditional social networking.

To mark the importance of the Digital Movie Awards we asked a group of animation and 3D specialists to judge the movies. Of course their task was not to browse though all the 1.5 million movies, but they chose the global winner from a selection of top five films, chosen by the local Habbo communities and a pre-judging panel. In our panel we had Matt Johnson, VFX Supervisor at Cinesite, award winning 2DTV animator Tim Searle from Triffic Films, Jim Thacker, the editor of 3D animation bible 3D World and Antti Jokinen, who has directed funky music videos for greats such as Missy Elliot, Kelly Clarkson and Amerie.

After an exciting panel member’s meeting on Habbo we got a final global winner. It was a tight battle between Japan and Russia, but the deciding vote went to the Japanese film. Congrats to Marsa.jp from Habbo.jp! Check out the winning movie!

Lots of things going on in Habbo, just wait for the hard-rocking Monsters of Habbo Heavy Metal Festival in a few weeks!
